Matt Kindler, MSW, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, is the Assistant Director of the Illinois Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health and Justice. Prior to joining the Center of Excellence, he was a Rehabilitation Supervisor and Coordinator of Forensic Services at Stepping Stones of Rockford, Inc. In that role, Matt developed a community conditional release program to work with individuals found not guilty by reason of insanity to reintegrate them into the community after they became psychiatrically stable in a state psychiatric hospital. He also developed an outpatient fitness restoration program for individuals found unfit to stand trial in Winnebago County. He also worked closely with the Winnebago County Mental Health Court (MHC) to provide treatment and court advocacy for individuals involved in the MHC who were also receiving care at Stepping Stones. Prior to his work at Stepping Stones, Matt worked for Rosecrance Health Network as a Screening, Assessment, and Support Services (SASS) Counselor. In that role, he provided crisis assessment and intervention for children and young adults who were experiencing a mental health crisis. Matt is a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the National Organization of Forensic Social Work (NOFSW), and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
